Aurora Environmental Continues Its Involvement in the Northampton Lead Tailings Project
Aurora Environmental is pleased to announce that it will continue its involvement in the Northampton Lead Tailings Project. In conjunction with Merit Consulting Group, Aurora Environmental has been appointed to undertake the second phase of the project which involves remediation of 130 properties within the Northampton townsite which have historically been impacted by lead tailings that were relocated from the former State Battery Site.
Aurora Environmental completed the first phase of the project which involved assessing more than 700 properties in Northampton to understand the presence and extent of lead tailings and then formulated a remediation strategy for each affected property. This work was completed under the direction of a steering committee of senior State Government officers from the Departments of Land, Health, Environment Regulation and Minerals and Petroleum as well as elected members and staff from the Shire of Northampton
The new stage of work is valued at in excess of $2.5 million.
Aurora Environmental will be responsible for supervising the works to ensure the remediation meets agreed performance standards and all necessary clearances are obtained under the Contaminated Site Act 2003. It is anticipated that remedial works will commence in the third quarter of 2017 and be completed within the first quarter 2018. All works will be conducted in close consultation with land owners.
