Detailed Site Investigation at Wheal Ellen Mine Site, Northampton
Aurora Environmental wishes to announce its appointment by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage as the Environmental Consultant to undertake a Detailed Site Investigation and supervise and validation remediation of lead tailings contamination on the Wheal Ellen mine site in Northampton.
This continues Aurora’s involvement with the Northampton Lead Tailings Project. The project has already included the investigation of over 750 properties in the townsite to assess for the presence of lead tailings, followed by the development and successful implementation of remediation strategy for 142 properties which were found to be affected by lead tailings originating from the Northampton State Battery Site.
Tailings have been stored in a temporary containment facility on the abandoned Wheal Ellen mine site. The current Detailed Site Investigation is necessary to develop a remediation strategy for the Wheal Ellen site prior to construction of a permanent containment facility to ensure that the tailings are permanently and safely contained.
Aurora is pleased to have been an integral part of delivering this major project mitigate the health and environmental risks from lead tailings.
