Contaminated Sites Auditor
Since 2011, Aurora Environmental has developed a strong reputation in contaminated sites services around Western Australia, particularly on brownfield redevelopment and remediation projects. Aurora is excited about extending another service to existing clients, new clients and industry partners following the accreditation of Brad Dermody as a Contaminated Sites Auditor by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. Brad has established a reputation as a principal environmental scientist with strong technical site characterisation and risk assessment skills. He applies these skills and almost 20 years of experience with a pragmatic and collaborative approach to advise clients of solutions to contaminated site problems.
As a Contaminated Sites Auditor based in Perth, he aims to provide the same responsive, high quality, clear and pragmatic advice to help clients obtain certainty on projects and outcomes for classifications under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.

The triggers for mandatory audits under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 include:
- A property is deemed to be a “source site” by the DWER, with contamination from it affecting other properties;
- A Mandatory Auditor’s Report (MAR) is required to satisfy a planning or other statutory condition;
- A regulatory notice (e.g., investigation clean up or hazard abatement notice) is issued by the DWER for a property; and
- Where the DWER requests a MAR for a property with complex contamination issues.
Voluntary audits can be undertaken when a trigger for a mandatory audit is expected and/or to provide additional assurance and certainty for decision making by clients.
