For Ping, a career in radiation safety has always been about making a meaningful impact. With a background spanning tertiary education, government agencies, healthcare, and manufacturing, he has built a diverse skill set that allows him to navigate complex challenges across various industries. Now, as an Associate Radiation Consultant at Aurora Environmental, he applies his expertise to help clients manage radiation risks effectively.
“What excites me most about my role is the diversity of industries we work with and the opportunity to provide expert guidance on safety and compliance. Every project is different, and I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to make a tangible impact while also contributing to the success of our client’s operations.”
Since joining Aurora in 2024, Ping has been involved in a range of projects, including the ongoing work at the Intractable Waste Disposal Facility (IWDF).
“This has been one of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on due to its complexity and impact. It involves site visits, reviewing management systems, and liaising with regulators and key stakeholders. Seeing how our work contributes to better waste management in Western Australia is incredibly fulfilling.”
One aspect of working in radiation that people may be surprised to learn is the continuous level of education required to remain informed in the ever-evolving nature of the industry.
“It’s a dynamic career that demands adaptability, ongoing learning, and the ability to apply new information to address complex issues quickly.”
Beyond the technical aspects, Ping says the people and culture at Aurora Environmental is what he enjoys most.
“The support and collaboration within the team are fantastic. It’s a flexible and positive work environment where everyone’s contributions are valued. Of course, the snacks and coffee are a nice bonus adding to the enjoyable work culture!”
Outside of work, Ping enjoys reading, walking, cycling, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family. He believes staying curious and adaptable is key to success in consulting.
“The field is always evolving, so my advice to anyone starting out is to embrace the challenges and keep seeking opportunities to learn. There’s always something new to discover.”
