Tellus Holdings and Aurora Environmental have a long-standing relationship through a Joint Venture as Facilities Manager for the Intractable Waste Disposal Facility at Mt Walton- East. Subsequently, Tellus engaged Aurora Environmental as Environmental Adviser for its proposed Sandy Ridge Kaolin mine and Class V intractable waste disposal facility, located in the Goldfields region of Western Australia approximately 140 km north-west of Kalgoorlie and 400 km north-east of Perth.
The Proposal comprises a kaolin mine that would produce up to 40,000 tpa of kaolin for export to the Asian market and use the resulting voids for the isolation of up to 100,000 tpa of hazardous and intractable waste. The Proposal will provide jobs and investment and business opportunities in a remote regional area.
Aurora Environmental is the lead consultant for the State and Federal environmental approvals process. Works commenced in January 2015 with the referral of the Sandy Ridge Project under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Aurora Environmental staff act as key advisers on project design and development and have overseen baseline survey work for the project. The draft Public Environmental Review was lodged in June 2016 for review by the EPA prior to being released for 10 weeks comment. Aurora Environmental will be involved through all stages of the project including delivery of the Mining Proposal, Mine Closure Plan, Works Approval and Licence under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
